The Power Of Theatre
The essence of theatre is communication. In this
course, students will nurture and develop their communication skills as they
apply to a variety of theatrical texts, improvisational exercises and other
related opportunities for written and spoken expression.
In our work together, we will explore the many ways theatre can impact audiences
and make a difference in the lives of the performers. Students will learn to
view theatrical productions, films and television shows with an insider's eye.
Class participants will become better writers, more articulate speakers and will
communicate more effectively in every aspect of their lives.
Creative arts training can be a way for students to become better people, not
just better performers. That's not hype. It's the power of theatre.
Meeting and Exceeding the Standards
Paradise Valley Unified School District's Scope and Sequence for Theatre is aligned with Arizona State Standards for our specialty area curriculum. The North Canyon Theatre program goes even farther in providing an exceptionally thorough and diverse course of study.
Along the way, students will...
* learn a variety of performance techniques and styles
* analyze dramatic texts
* develop research and planning skills
* participate in improvisational exercises
* create original monologues, scenes and plays
* explore the history and social contest of theatre through the years
* compare performances, technologies and creative processes
* examine the influences of noteworthy groups and individuals
